When first starting Project Ethiopia, Judy and Dennis ’ initial wish was to work in a single village until it was “done ”. Similarly, the early thinking was to build a single primary school up to grade 8 and then move on to the next one.
The team in Ethiopia emphasized the importance of giving every village hope. That would happen if we worked in several villages at once and kept expanding over time so villagers felt reassured their turn would come. In a single year, there may be a school well project in one community, latrines installed in another village, and metal roofing for homes in two additional villages – a growing circle of improvements inspiring hope and anticipation.
MISSION IN ACTION:
A Circle of Hope for Primary School Children
School projects typically begin with building or improving classrooms for grades 1 to 3. So children have access to higher grades as they advance, we then build additional grade level classrooms gradually across circle of villages. Construction is staged so we impact a wide area at once and build a pathway to 8th grade for an ever-broadening circle of villages. Each year, the circle grows to include more and more children gaining access to grades 1 to 8 and spreading hope for thousands of children and families.
